ne of the world's most important living artists, Frank Stella is recognized as an iconic figure of postwar American art, considered the most influential painter of the movement beyond Abstract Expressionism toward Minimalism. The mural at Mirvish Village is inspired by his painting Damascus Gate, which he created in 1970. Part of Stella's protractor series, Damascus Gate is one of the largest paintings in the series, requiring the viewer to stand at a distance, or walk along its 50 feet. The piece was displayed in David Mirvish's gallery for 35 years.
